Mumbai: MMRDA Achieves Major Milestone On Eastern Freeway Extension, Installs 160-Tonne Trusses In 4 Hours

in5points
MMRDA installed two 160-tonne main trusses for the Segment Launcher on the Eastern Freeway Extension in a 4-hour traffic window.
The actual erection of both trusses, each 59 metres long, was completed in one hour with minimal traffic disruption.
The Segment Launcher will now erect 1,632 precast concrete segments, each weighing around 90 tonnes, to form the viaduct superstructure.
The 13.9-km Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension is a six-lane high-speed corridor connecting Anand Nagar in Thane with Chheda Nagar in Ghatkopar.
Once completed, the corridor is expected to reduce travel time between South Mumbai and Thane to 20–25 minutes, easing congestion on the Eastern Express Highway.
