14-year-old Montana boy uses Rodeo Lasso to save drowning man on camping trip

year-old Jory Thomas used a 12-foot lariat to rescue a man from the fast-moving Yellowstone River near Greycliff, Montana, on July 5.

A raft and paddleboard collided with a bridge pillar, throwing four people into the water; one man drifted downstream while clinging to a cooler.

Thomas roped the man on his first attempt and pulled him to shore before emergency responders arrived.

Thomas learned roping through cattle brandings and daily practice with a roping dummy; he received a Certificate of Achievement for his actions.
