Pune FDA Cracks Down: Licences Of 12 Hotels, Restaurants & Bakeries Suspended Over Hygiene Violations

Pune FDA suspended licences of 12 hotels, restaurants and bakeries after inspections on July 18 and 21 found unhygienic kitchens, expired food, poor food-handling practices, and sanitation violations.

Ten establishments are in Pune district (Joker Hospitality, Red and Huge, Toni Da Dhaba, Hotel Lokpriya, Fountain Pure Veg, K.M. Foods, Aqsa Bakery, Jai Sadguru Irani Chai and Snacks Centre, Phoklo Technology Pvt. Ltd., Swinsta Ent Pvt. Ltd.) and two in Satara district (Shalimar Udupi Veg Restaurant, Surbhi Hotel and Bar).

Separate FDA actions between July 16–21 in Chinchwad, Pandharpur and Vaduj seized banned food items worth ₹3.48 lakh and led to five arrests under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

FDA directed all operators to strictly follow the Food Safety Act, including providing free safe drinking water, using food-grade packaging, obtaining valid licences, avoiding reused cooking oil, and not misleading customers on menu cards.

FDA suspended the licence of the canteen at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters in Mumbai after repeated complaints of unhygienic conditions, such as finding a fly in buttermilk and a plastic thread in onion pakodas.
