Mental Healthcare Act implementation: HC seeks affidavits from Punjab, Haryana chief secys

Punjab and Haryana have not fully implemented the Mental Healthcare Act 2017, despite it being in force for eight years.

The Punjab & Haryana High Court ordered the chief secretaries of Punjab and Haryana to file personal affidavits on implementation progress.

Haryana framed rules but has not constituted the State Mental Health Authority or Mental Health Review Board.

Punjab requested one week to file an affidavit on implementation status.

The bench of acting chief justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra expressed serious concern over the lack of implementation.
