Punjab: Seeking regular jobs, public bus staff begin 3-day strike
Contractual employees of Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS, and PRTC began a three-day statewide strike on Monday.
The union demands include job regularisation for staff working for the past 11 years and inclusion of outsourced employees in the contractual employment system.
Other demands are equal pay for equal work, withdrawal of 'false cases', and discontinuation of buses operating under the kilometre scheme.
Nearly 8,200 contractual and outsourced employees are seeking regularisation; contractual conductors are paid ₹17,000 per month and drivers ₹18,000.
The union plans to march towards the Vidhan Sabha in Mohali and launch a hunger strike until demands are met.
