35 years on, 103-yr-old woman wins legal battle for plot of land

Habiban Khatoon, 103, won a legal battle after 35 years for possession of 1 katha and 4 dhur of land in East Champaran district, Bihar.

The dispute began in 1993 when her son Rahamtullah bought the land from Afaque Ahmad; cousin Liaquat Hussain bought the same land two days later and took possession.

Habiban filed a title suit in March 1994, and courts ruled in her favor in 2004 and 2014, but possession was delayed due to transfers and COVID-19.

She finally regained possession in July 2026 after the sadar munsif court ordered execution.

Habiban sold all valuables to bear legal expenses; her husband Naimullah Ansari died before seeing the outcome.
