'Don't make them run from pillar to post': FM Sitharaman asks income tax dept to work for common people

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman urged income tax officials to simplify citizen access to government services and not make people 'run from pillar to post'.

Sitharaman inaugurated Aaykar Sindhu, a 13-floor income tax office building in Mumbai's Nariman Point.

She criticized the 'laidback' approach of government departments that allowed illegal encroachments on government land, including the site of Aaykar Sindhu which had been encroached since 1973.

Sitharaman said she would address the housing needs of income tax officers in Mumbai.

She stressed the importance of honesty and integrity in tax administration.
