Valluri Ajaya Babu won the silver medal in the men's 79kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.
He finished with a total of 330kg, one kilogram behind Malaysia's Erry Hidayat Muhammad, who won gold with a Games record of 331kg.
Ajaya Babu successfully lifted 145kg in snatch and 183kg in clean and jerk.
His father, Valluri Srinivasa Rao, won a bronze medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, continuing the family's weightlifting legacy.
At 22 years old, Ajaya Babu hails from Kondavelagada village in Andhra Pradesh and previously won gold at the 2025 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships.
