Delhi deploys amphibious excavators to clear decades-old silt from Ghazipur drain

Delhi government deployed two long-boom amphibious excavators to clear decades-old silt from the Ghazipur drain.

The excavators operate on dry land, marshy terrain and shallow water, reaching stretches inaccessible to conventional equipment.

Each machine has a 15-metre boom, excavates up to nine metres deep, and costs ₹2.62 crore.

The Ghazipur drain carries water from Noida, Sahibabad, Chilla and industrial areas; desilting had not occurred for 30–40 years.

Water and I&FC minister Parvesh Verma said the deployment aims to restore carrying capacity and reduce monsoon waterlogging.
