What happened to Jackie the bald eagle? Beloved Big Bear eagle suffers health setback as anemia worsens

Jackie, the beloved bald eagle watched via the Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV) nest camera, has suffered a health setback while being treated for severe anemia at the Ojai Raptor Center.

New blood tests show Jackie's packed cell volume (PCV) has dropped to 13%, indicating her anemia has worsened.

Veterinarians at the Ojai Raptor Center have started additional advanced diagnostic testing to determine the cause of the decline.

Jackie had previously received a life-saving blood transfusion from another female bald eagle named Spirit, a resident at CALM Zoo in Bakersfield.

The Ojai Raptor Center said they do not yet have definitive answers about the underlying cause and will provide updates when meaningful medical information is available.
