Consumer unable to avail promotional benefits, bank told to refund credit card joining fee

Mohali consumer disputes redressal commission directed IndusInd Bank to refund ₹25,000 credit card joining fee with interest to Mohali resident Harpreet Singh.

Singh was unable to redeem promotional Jet Airways flight vouchers promised with the Signature Legend credit card obtained in April 2018.

The commission held that promotional benefits were a material inducement for obtaining the credit card, and the bank's arrangement with Jet Airways could not prejudice the consumer's rights.

The bank had argued Jet Airways was a necessary party, but the commission rejected this, noting Singh's transaction was with the bank and the bank failed to produce evidence.
