SC grants more time for pharmacy council to verify colleges

Supreme Court extended the deadline for Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) to grant approvals to pharmacy colleges until September 15 for the 2026-27 academic session.

The extension was granted subject to an undertaking by PCI that no further extensions will be sought in future years.

PCI cited delays in inspections due to college-related issues and manpower shortage as reasons for the extension request.

The court directed all states to abide by the order and recorded PCI president Montu Kumar M Patel's undertaking.

Approvals were originally required by June under a 2012 schedule, later extended to August 31 in 2025.
