Dept inquiry to check if old man booked for drunk driving had suffered a stroke earlier

  1. Mumbai police's Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone 9) ordered a departmental inquiry into the drunk driving case against 73-year-old Sharad Kadam.

  2. The inquiry will be conducted by the assistant commissioner of police and will question officers involved in the investigation and FIR registration.

  3. Kadam crashed his car into another vehicle on July 25 and was booked for drunk driving by Versova police, but his family says he suffered a stroke before the accident.

  4. Police detained Kadam for nearly five hours, delaying his stroke treatment by about 12 hours, leaving him partly paralysed and in the ICU at Nanavati Hospital.

  5. Versova police claim Kadam appeared drunk; his blood sample was sent to Cooper Hospital for alcohol testing.
