Ludhiana: Bodies of two cousins fished out from Sirhind Canal; family alleges foul play

Bodies of cousins Vikasdeep Singh (19) and Akashdeep Singh (20) were recovered from a Toyota Innova in the Sirhind Canal near Machhiwara.

The car was fished out around 7:30 pm on July 25, 2026, after a rescue operation involving divers and a crane.

Police recovered a cache of illicit liquor from the vehicle; the cousins were allegedly involved in transporting illicit liquor.

The family alleged the cousins were chased and hit by a vehicle linked to a liquor contractor before the Innova plunged into the canal.

Vikasdeep’s father Rimpi Singh stated he heard the cousins shouting about being hit during a phone call before the call disconnected.
