India issued takedown notice on Bluetooth chat app ‘Bitchat’, says Dorsey

India's Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) issued a takedown notice for the Bluetooth chat app Bitchat, citing its architecture makes lawful interception difficult.

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey shared an I4C notice directing GitHub to remove Bitchat's source code within three hours.

Protesters at Delhi's Jantar Mantar used Bitchat to stay connected after authorities suspended mobile internet six times in five days.

Bitchat uses Bluetooth mesh networking to exchange messages without an internet connection.

The I4C notice warns Bitchat could be exploited by anti-national elements, terrorist organizations, and cybercriminals.
