Step inside Gujarat’s Mahabat Maqbara: 11 photos of the restored Junagadh marvel

Mahabat Maqbara in Junagadh, Gujarat, was commissioned in 1878 by Nawab Mahabat Khan II and completed in 1892 under Bahadur Khanji III.

The mausoleum blends European flair with Indo-Islamic craftsmanship, and the complex also includes the Bahauddin Maqbara for wazir Bahauddin Hussain Bhar.

Architectural historian Saman Quraishi describes the monument as a contextual Indian interpretation, not a simple Indo-Gothic derivative.

The structure is positioned at a 45-degree angle to the road to amplify its visual scale, and features spiral staircases, marble inlays, and calligraphic panels.
