No Indian visitor applied for asylum during FIFA World Cup: Canada

No Indian visitor who arrived in Canada for the FIFA World Cup has claimed asylum, according to updated data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Of the 2,660 visa applications from Indians for the World Cup, only 665 were approved.

Canada approved 26,000 visas and rejected 20,845, and refused 205 electronic travel authorisations for visa-exempt foreign nationals.

Ghana had the largest number of visa rejections at 3,135, with only 470 approvals.

IRCC clarified there is no special 'FIFA visa' allowing work or settlement, after misleading social media videos.
