Dawood Khan: A soldier, a trade unionist and a lifelong fighter

Dawood Khan, a soldier who fought in the 1962, 1965, and 1971 wars, passed away at age 91.

He was a railway trade unionist and general secretary, arrested during the Emergency for the 1974 railway strike.

As senior member of the Bombay Aman Committee, he helped riot victims and campaigned for the B N Srikrishna Commission Report's implementation.

He was the Committee's only Leftist member, but insisted on a picture of Chhatrapati Shivaji in the Bombay Central car shed to honor workers' sentiments.

He mentored youth in secular activities like setting up libraries, gymnasiums, and skill classes in slums.
