3 Air India staffers among 29 under gaze in Amritsar airport human trafficking probe

Punjab Bureau of Investigation will question three Air India staffers and four employees of AI Airport Services Limited on July 24.

The probe concerns 14 passengers who flew from Amritsar to London on Air India flights between January 11 and 16, 2026 using forged digital immigration documents and later sought asylum in the UK.

Investigators allege airline and ground handling staff failed to verify passengers' immigration status via the UK Home Office's online system, relying instead on mobile phone screenshots.

British authorities alerted Air India after the first batch of five passengers landed on January 11, but another nine still boarded with similar forged documents.
