Samay Raina 'has taken court for a ride': Supreme Court raps comedian, imposes ₹3 lakh fine

Supreme Court imposed a ₹3 lakh fine on Samay Raina for violating court orders in a case about insensitive remarks on persons with disabilities.

Raina had not invited any disabled persons to his show, violating a court direction to persuade specially-abled people to join his programs.

The court was hearing a petition by Cure SMA India Foundation, which accused Raina of making insensitive remarks about the cost of treatment for Spinal Muscular Atrophy and ridiculing a person with the disability.

In November 2025, the court had directed Raina to organize at least 2 events per month to raise funds for a corpus to treat persons with disabilities.

Raina's counsel claimed ₹9 lakh was raised through shows for disabled persons, but the petitioner stated they did not want money and highlighted the failure to invite disabled individuals.
