Noel Tata says education needs more capital, fewer curbs

Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata questioned restrictions on for-profit education, saying they discourage investment in the sector.

Tata said India should create world-class institutions so students don't have to go abroad for higher education.

Tata Trusts plans to build 40-50 general hospitals across India, starting with three identified locations.

The hospitals will operate on a not-for-profit basis with a cross-subsidy model, charging commercial rates for 20-30% of rooms.

Tata said education and healthcare are key focus areas for the Trusts, which also partners with IIM Bangalore for an undergraduate school.
