Jana Nayagan screenings were halted and posters torn in Mandya, Karnataka, by protesters against the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's directive to release 3500 cusecs of Cauvery water daily to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.

Activists laid siege to Gurushri Cinema, forcing management to cancel the screening of Vijay's film.

Protesters urged Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to stop water release, citing drought and lack of drinking water for people and livestock.

The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, led by KFCC president Jayamala, and producer Rockline Venkatesh expressed support for the farmers' agitation.

Jana Nayagan, directed by Vinoth and produced by Venkat K Narayana under KVN Productions, is Vijay's final film before his political career.
