HC directs BMC to lodge criminal cases against people littering on streets, public places

Bombay High Court directed BMC to initiate criminal cases against those littering on streets and public places.

The order was issued while hearing petitions about foul odour and gas emissions from the Kanjurmarg landfill.

The court noted that garbage dumped into drains and the sea pollutes marine life and harms the environment.

Ward officers were directed to ensure municipal drains are covered to prevent them from becoming dumping sites.

The court emphasized that strict enforcement of laws and civic discipline are necessary for environmental protection.
