Legal Aid Defence Counsel System: Striking lawyers to resume work from Monday

Striking lawyers in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh will resume court work from Monday after deferring their agitation against the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System (LADCS) policy.

The decision followed a late-night meeting between Punjab and Haryana High Court acting Chief Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of bar associations.

Judges assured to rectify deficiencies in the LADCS policy and prepare an SOP for its implementation.

A meeting between JAC members and Chief Justice of India Surya Kant is scheduled for Monday.

The strike, which lasted 30 days, suspended judicial work in some courts, with lawyers arguing the policy affects quality of work and litigants.
