HC cracks whip on garbage near heritage sites, gives BMC 7 days to clear waste

The Bombay High Court directed BMC to clear waste around heritage sites in Mumbai within seven days.

Ward officers will be held personally responsible if waste is not cleared.

Heritage sites affected include Institute of Science, Rajabai Tower, Bombay City Civil Court, Bombay High Court, and Horniman Circle.

The court acted on petitions including one from Kannamwar Cooperative Housing Society about the Kanjurmarg landfill.

Authorities were ordered to take civil or criminal action against illegal waste dumping.
