Canada pauses taking fresh applications that allowed immigrants to sponsor parents for permanent residency

Canada has paused new applications under the Parents and Grandparents Program for permanent residency sponsorship.

The program launched in 2020 has 60,500 applications already in progress.

Processing times for existing applications exceed two-and-a-half years.
