Queensland reported its first H5N1 bird flu case in a wild seabird on Moreton Island.
Australia is the fourth state to detect the virus, with 18 infections now confirmed across four states.
H5N1 arrived in Australia in June 2025, having been previously detected on Heard Island in late 2025.
The infected seabird was a dead petrel found by Queensland park rangers at Moreton Island.
Authorities say the risk to humans remains low.
