Western Railway plans to rebuild the Bandra–Khar Road rail flyover in 45 days, halving the earlier proposed 90-day shutdown.
The reconstruction is critical for completing the Mumbai Central–Borivali sixth railway line under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project Phase-II.
The existing flyover carries Harbour Line trains and blocks the alignment for the sixth line; the new structure will create space for the additional track.
During the 45-day mega block, Harbour Line services between Bandra and Goregaon are likely to be suspended or curtailed.
Precast segmental technology and advanced engineering methods will be used to speed up demolition, rebuilding, and commissioning.
