Shiv Sena Opposes ₹2,100-Crore Waste-To-Energy Project At Turbhe Dumping Ground, Seeks Relocation

Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) opposes NMMC's ₹2,100-crore waste-to-energy, power generation, and bio-CNG project at Turbhe dumping ground, demanding relocation.
A Shiv Sena delegation met Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde to urge reconsideration over environmental and public health concerns.
Nearly 50,000 residents and 25 industrial estates have endured pollution from the landfill for years; MPCB had previously directed the civic body to stop dumping.
MPCB inspections found mixed waste dumped without segregation and toxic leachate discharged into MIDC drains without adequate treatment.
The proposed project aims to establish an integrated waste processing facility via a public-private partnership with NMMC holding 26% stake, intended to manage waste until 2038.
