Indian-origin woman held in Canada for $60,000 rental scam

Savreet Kaur, a 27-year-old Indian-origin woman, was arrested in Brampton, Canada, on July 13 for an alleged rental scam.

Peel Regional Police say Kaur advertised rental properties on social media between May 2025 and February 2026, collecting deposits for first and last month's rent.

Victims arrived at the advertised addresses to find the properties unavailable, and none received accommodations or refunds.

Police identified 17 victims with total losses exceeding C$60,000.

Kaur faces 38 counts of fraud over C$5,000 and one count of obstructing police; allegations are unproven.
