Bhiwandi mayor asks officials to disconnect power, water supply to dilapidated buildings

  1. Bhiwandi Mayor Narayan Ratan Chaudhary ordered disconnection of water and power supply to all C1 and C2A category buildings after the collapse of Kohinoor Building in Balaji Nagar, which killed 10 people.

  2. The Kohinoor Building had been declared dangerous six years ago and was among 238 C1 and 836 C2A category structures within the Nizampur City Municipal Corporation limits.

  3. Torrent Power is responsible for cutting electricity connections, while ward officers must send official notifications and conduct surprise inspections, including night visits, to prevent unauthorized repair work.

  4. The Vehicle Department was asked to hire dumpers and JCB machines per ward and process proposals for new Bolero jeeps for ward officers, while the Medical Health Department will rent an ambulance for the Disaster Management Department and purchase new ones.

  5. Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, acting on instructions from the Chief Minister's Office, directed ward committees to issue notices to all C1 category buildings in Thane city.
