HC hands over Dombivli doctor assault probe to DCP-rank officer

Bombay High Court transferred the probe into the assault on doctors at Shastri Nagar Municipal Hospital in Dombivli to a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP)-rank officer within two days.

The division bench of Acting Chief Justice Ravindra V Ghuge and Justice Gautam Ankhad acted after finding no recent progress in the investigation.

Shiv Sena councillor Ramesh Mhatre is accused of assaulting doctors and nurses on July 6, 2026, and was arrested along with three co-accused after surrendering on July 19.

The high court had stayed a magistrate's bail order for Mhatre, noting 18 criminal cases against him over 36 years.

The court directed adequate security for victims and witnesses; the state said a senior police inspector had been assigned and a DCP would be appointed.
