Mohali family to get ₹20,000 relief over lost US-bound courier

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Mohali, directed DTDC Express Limited to pay ₹20,351 to a Mohali family for losing an original driving licence sent to the US.

Jasbir Singh and his daughter Birinder Kaur Dhillon filed the complaint after the courier booked on December 23, 2021, was reported untraceable on December 31.

The family paid ₹2,502 for the shipment and later paid $31 for a duplicate licence in the US, which the compensation covers.

The commission rejected DTDC's defence that liability was limited to ₹100, as the company failed to inform the customer about the limitation or advise insurance.

The courier company was held responsible for the loss and directed to pay compensation for the lost courier charges, duplicate licence cost, and damages.
