OpenAI promotes Uday Ruddarraju as CTO for compute

OpenAI promoted Uday Ruddarraju as chief technology officer for compute.

Ruddarraju joined OpenAI in July 2025 from Elon Musk's xAI as head of compute and infrastructure.

He leads the compute team that brought new capacity online and built systems for training frontier models including GPT-5.6.

Ruddarraju stated the mission to build the world's largest compute footprint with a major infrastructure expansion roadmap.
