India's U-19 WC-winning star arrested over alleged attempt to bribe player

Former India U-19 World Cup winner Manjot Kalra was arrested in Sri Lanka on July 17, 2026, for allegedly attempting to bribe a player during the Lanka Premier League.
Kalra, a co-owner of the Jaffna Kings franchise, was taken into custody by the Police Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports.
The alleged bribery attempt was reported by Jaffna Kings players Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Avishka Fernando, and Dunith Wellalage.
Kalra's arrest occurred on the opening day of the 2026 Lanka Premier League, hours before the Jaffna Kings were scheduled to play.
Sri Lanka Cricket stated it will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.
