Shea Langeliers torn meniscus injury leaves Athletics catcher facing season-ending decision

Shea Langeliers suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee while running the bases and could miss the rest of the 2026 season.

The Athletics catcher will decide whether to undergo surgery; if he does, he will be sidelined through the final months of 2026.

Langeliers was on pace to become just the third catcher in MLB history with three straight seasons of at least 29 home runs.

In 93 games in 2026, he is hitting .263/.332/.497 with 23 home runs and 51 RBIs, and has thrown out 11 of 35 baserunners.

His injury likely ends any trade speculation before the August 3 deadline, as the Athletics are 44-60 with an MLB-worst minus-122 run differential.
