Maharashtra halts Ringer Lactate batches after Pune, Nandurbar complaints

Maharashtra Public Health Department halted use and distribution of specific Ringer Lactate IV 500 ml batches after adverse effect complaints from Pune and Nandurbar districts.

The Maharashtra Medical Goods Procurement Authority (MMGPA) issued the order on July 29, instructing government hospitals and healthcare institutions to stop using the identified batches pending investigation.

The withdrawn batches are MH2510109 (supplied to Nandurbar, 7,808 bottles), MH2510097 (supplied to Pune, 7,064 bottles), and MH2510098 (supplied to Pune, 9,528 bottles), all manufactured in October 2025 with expiry September 2027.

Patients at Primary Health Centres in Wagholi and Maan developed chills, nausea, headache, and body ache after administration of the IV fluid, according to Pune district health officer Dr Ramchandra Hankare.

The batches had been tested and certified by an empanelled NABL-accredited laboratory, M/s Sophisticated Industrial Material Analytical Labs Pvt. Ltd., but were suspended as a precautionary measure.
