HC registers suo motu PIL over alleged assault on three lawyers at Lucknow district court

Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court converted the alleged assault on three Delhi-based advocates (Abhipsa Mohanty, Komal Agarwal, Ashutosh Srivastava) and their client Mohd Shakir into a suo motu PIL.

The bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Manjive Shukla based the order on reports from the Lucknow district judge and police commissioner, FIR, video clip, and CCTV footage.

The advocates alleged they were assaulted and prevented from appearing in a civil suit on July 21 by an advocate and his associates inside Lucknow district court.

A video played in court prima facie showed advocates assaulting a person identified as plaintiff Mohd Shakir.

The court observed the allegations disclosed a serious matter involving interference with administration of justice.
