Second suspect held in 2023 murder of Punjab-origin youth in Canada

Devaunte Thompson, 26, of Caledon, was arrested in Toronto on July 16, 2026, and charged with second-degree murder in the 2023 killing of Gurvinder Nath.

Gurvinder Nath, 24, a Punjab-origin food delivery driver from Nawanshahr district, was fatally assaulted during an attempted carjacking in Mississauga on July 9, 2023.

First suspect Jazaine Kerr, 23, of Mississauga, was arrested on February 15, 2024, and charged with second-degree murder and possession of a prohibited firearm.

Thompson is held in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice.
