Delhi govt to seek 27 acres from DDA for new Narela jail

The Delhi government will request the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for 27 acres of land in Narela for a new prison.
The new jail will be adjacent to the upcoming high-security jail in Narela, forming an integrated correctional complex.
This expansion aims to decongest Tihar Jail, which houses nine central prisons and is overcrowded.
Delhi's prison complexes (Tihar, Rohini, Mandoli) have a sanctioned capacity of 10,026 but hold around 19,500 inmates.
The new facility is planned as ground-plus-two floors with capacity for about 1,500 inmates.
