Centre says MP already given highest moong procurement approval, urges state to speed up purchases
The Centre approved procurement of up to 454,580 metric tonnes of moong for Madhya Pradesh under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for the 2025-26 summer season, the highest allocation to any state.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan urged MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to expedite moong purchases, as only 60,000 tonnes had been procured by July 29.
The approval covers 87% of the total national PSS allocation of 523,243 metric tonnes for moong.
Chouhan clarified that procurement beyond the approved limit would be the state's responsibility, and additional central approval requires examination by the Committee of Secretaries.
Madhya Pradesh's allocation far exceeds those of other states: 48,298 tonnes for Uttar Pradesh, 18,250 tonnes for Gujarat, and 2,115 tonnes for Haryana.
