MSRTC Extends 10% Temporary Fare Hike Till July 31 As Diesel Prices & Operational Costs Continue To Rise

MSRTC extended its temporary 10% fare hike for passengers until July 31 due to rising diesel prices and operational costs.

The increase was originally set to end on July 15, but was extended because of higher employee costs, spare parts prices, and financial pressure.

A proposal for a permanent 13.5% fare revision remains pending with the State Transport Authority.

In May 2026, MSRTC earned ₹1,047.17 crore in transport revenue against operational expenditure of ₹1,096.07 crore, resulting in a revenue gap.

The permanent fare revision proposal also includes rounding off ticket fares to the nearest multiple of ₹5 to reduce disputes over small change.
