Haemophilia care no longer just about stopping bleeds

At the National Haemostasis Update 2026, experts said haemophilia care now aims for normal lives, not just preventing bleeds.

Advances include wider access to clotting factors, preventive therapy, and newer non-factor treatments.

Newer non-factor drugs are longer-acting and can be given as subcutaneous injections, unlike clotting factors requiring IV.

Dr Alok Srivastava, IAHAD president, stressed the need for home-based treatment to reduce hospital visits.

Dr Varun Kaul noted regular treatment lets children with haemophilia participate in school and activities confidently.
