West Bengal to clear all pending CAA applications within six months, says Suvendu Adhikari
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced all pending CAA applications in the state will be cleared within six months.
,956 citizenship certificates have been issued so far, including 5,966 in the last 11 weeks since the BJP government assumed office.
The state has received 2,30,605 applications under the CAA; Nadia district has the highest number of beneficiaries with 10,191 certificates, followed by North 24 Parganas with 8,930.
Adhikari said the process of delegating legal and administrative powers to district magistrates for faster disposal of CAA applications is expected to begin within a month.
The CAA provides citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians who fled religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan and entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
