Mohali: Ludhiana man booked for forging hypothecation documents

Deepak Chawla, a Ludhiana resident, was booked for forging a bank NOC to remove hypothecation from a Maruti Swift's RC and selling it as loan-free.

Ajay Nain, a used-car dealer in Zirakpur, filed the complaint after buying the car for ₹5.7 lakh, later discovering an active loan.

Kotaki Mahindra Bank confirmed the NOC was fake and the car had an outstanding loan of ₹6.5 lakh as of February 20, 2026.

The FIR was registered at Zirakpur police station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita including cheating.
