State allows CCMP-qualified homeopaths to register with Medical Council

  1. The Maharashtra government issued a GR allowing BHMS doctors with CCMP qualification to register with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC).

  2. Over 12,500 homeopaths who completed the one-year Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP) will qualify to practice allopathy, pending a Bombay high court hearing.

  3. The GR forms a committee chaired by the commissioner of medical education and research to determine the scope of treatment and submit a report within a month.

  4. The committee includes a technical member nominated by the director of AYUSH, the registrar of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, the registrar of Maharashtra Homeopathy Council, and the MMC registrar.

  5. The Indian Medical Association's state wing announced a 24-hour strike starting 6 am Tuesday to protest the GR, affecting private clinics and some hospital OPDs.
