Connecticut student loses Presidential award competition

Aangad Singh from Connecticut reached the final eight of the Presidential 1776 Award competition but did not win.

His parents believe he lost because of his turban and Sikh background, and they cite correct answers being marked wrong.

Singh's answer 'Thirteenth' for the amendment ending slavery was marked incorrect, and his answer on federal court jurisdiction was also flagged wrong.

The winners were from Michigan, Washington, and Wyoming, all white, and the award included a $250,000 scholarship and meeting with President Donald Trump.

Singh's father sought clarification from the Department of Education, but the deputy chief of staff cited rules that judges' decisions are final.
