Nepal eases rules on Indian currency, allows Rs 200 and Rs 500 notes up to Rs 25,000
Nepal has eased rules to allow Indian Rs 200 and Rs 500 notes (issued after November 9, 2016) up to Rs 25,000 per person.
The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) permits Indian and Nepali citizens to carry these notes into or out of Nepal, but only to/from India.
Indian currency notes issued before the 2016 demonetisation remain prohibited in Nepal.
The rule change aims to facilitate Indian tourists and Nepalese engaged in cross-border trade and business.
Nepali citizens cannot bring Indian currency from countries other than India.
