India invites Bangladesh PM to Brics Summit

India invited Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman to the 18th Brics Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13.

Tarique is reluctant to visit while former PM Sheikh Hasina remains in India, fearing domestic backlash.

Bangladesh aspires to join Brics and has received support from China and Russia.

PM Narendra Modi invited Tarique in February after he took office.

India previously invited Bangladesh as a Bimstec member for a Brics outreach session in 2016.
