Maharashtra FDA Suspends 34 Blood Centre Licences, Cancels 4 Permanently In Major Crackdown

Maharashtra FDA suspended licences of 34 blood centres and blood storage facilities between April and June 2026 for violations of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
Licences of four facilities were permanently cancelled, including Patil Hospital Blood Storage Centre in Pune, Aadhar Blood Storage Centre in Thane, Maya Blood Centre in Mumbai, and Sir J.J. Municipal Blood Centre in Mumbai.
The crackdown followed inspections that found non-compliance with quality standards, record-keeping deficiencies, and breaches of licence conditions that could endanger patient safety.
FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe warned that blood services cannot be treated as a commercial activity and strict action will continue against violators.
The state has 413 licensed blood centres and 468 blood storage centres, all subject to mandatory annual and surprise inspections.
